Lady Gaga G.U.Y - an ARTPOP film // Review

Can we take a moment to talk about my current state of confusion over Lady Gaga's latest video. What I and others thought was going to be a video for G.U.Y ended up being a mishmash of ideas from unreleased ARTPOP era videos, leading into the full length G.U.Y video, and a credit roll, lasting the entire length of MANiCURE.

Gaga had previously explained that she had not been able to execute the earlier videos as she was only given a week to plan and film and stated that "All my most successful videos were planned over a period of time when I was rested and my creativity was honoured"   she then said  "The next few months of ARTPOP will truly be its beginning. Because those who did not care about ARTPOP's success are now gone, and the dreams I have been planning can now come to fruition...Let me be for you the Goddess that I know I truly am, let me show you the visions that have been in my mind for two years."

All of this basically means that she had an idea of what she wanted to happen, but was unable to create the beginning of it due to timing problems. Her ideas for the videos that were supposed to come before G.U.Y were condensed and shown with snippets of their respecting audio, before the full length G.U.Y video.

I fully understand why she did what she did, as she wanted to get her vision across and show everyone her ideas, but it could have been done in more artistic way... considering the album is called ARTPOP. The preluding videos may have worked better as a stand alone project, but in my opinion they do not work as part of the G.U.Y video.  Showing these smaller clips of what would have happened in the previous videos is somewhat frustrating, as they contain so much potential for what could have been  pure amazing videos.

For me the video doesn't really pick up, and show potential until half way through the VENUS preluding clip, featuring The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills playing guitars and other instruments as Gaga's band! I lost count of her outfit changes somewhere around fifteen, and you can almost count on the fact she has a cheesey dance routine or two in there. The Real housewives aren't the only cameo's in the video, as we see her cloning the likes of Jesus, Ghandi and Michael Jackson!

I won't give any more away, as you can watch for yourselves right here!

Fans are currently trying to break the vevo record, for most views in one day, Miley Cyrus currently holds the record with Wrecking Ball standing at 19million views with in its first 24 hours. In order to break the record, G.U.Y needs to reach 20 million views by 1am GMT.

Let me know what you think!

Peace out xoxo
