Is it too late to start a new years resolution?

Why is it, that everyone waits until December 31st to drunkenly promise themselves that they will be better people?  I feel as if half of these people don't even want to change, they are just making resolutions because the rest of the population are doing the same thing, but for the ones that do genuinely want to change something in their lives; why wait until New Years eve?

I didn't have any New Years Resolutions this year, I didn't see the point. I didn't really want to change anything in my life, mainly because you can't force change... I have been trying to quit biting my fingernails since I was a kid, and my nails are still just as short and stubby as they were then! I however did have a list of goals that I wanted to achieve; learn to drive, publish something, leave the country, not fail my second year at university, and so far I have done none of them. That doesn't mean I am not going to do them, it just means I am lazy, poor and unmotivated, or at least I was earlier.

One of the things I have wanted to do for a long time, is to lose weight and develop a healthy lifestyle. It seems easy enough when you think about it, but when you are a procrastinator like me, and always find reasons to avoid doing something, everything that could be done with ease becomes a massive chore. Another example of this, is the 3000 word essay I have to write for next week, I was given the assignment in October, I just didn't do it, as other things prevailed. Well not this time!

I used my friends visitors pass to go to the Gym this morning, and as I was peddling away on the bike, my mind stared to wander, and it carried on wandering, all the way into the swimming pool and up into the sauna. I was thinking that I should have joined the gym back in January instead of procrastinating, as I could have been half way towards my goal by now, and then I told myself 'maybe it can be your new years resolution next year'.   I facepalmed myself at that idea. Why wait until then? If I want to make a change, I shouldn't have to wait until a socially acceptable time of year to do so.

This led to me thinking of a whole bunch of other things I wanted to achieve by the end of this year.  I'm not going to list them, because some of them are a little bit weird, and that's not the point of this post. What I am getting at, is that if you want to make a difference in your life, you should go out and do it! Don't wait for a particular time of year, because that's just silly. It's never too late to start a New Years resolution, because in my books they no longer exist. For me, it's all about new days resolutions. Wake up every morning, with a small goal, because the smaller goals add up to bigger goals, and before you know it, you'll be scoring touchdowns and shooting baskets all over the world.

I know one Gym session isn't going to change everyone's outlook on life, but it changed mine, and I may still be lazy, and poor, but at least I am now motivated. I may never go back to the gym, but at least now I have the motivation to actually do the things I want to do... until I find a cat on instagram and spend hours looking through their photo's!

Peace out xoxo
