I’m one of those people that are always
adding more and more books to their Amazon wish list; for every one book that I
buy, I add a further ten. It’s always been that way, even before I had an
Amazon wish list -before I knew what Amazon was – I kept a notebook next to my
bed, listing all the books that I eventually wanted to read. As this list is
ever growing, I figured I would share some of my favourites with you, and who
knows, maybe I’ll end up picking them on my next book haul.
I have a list designated just for books; I
was fed up of scrolling through the copious amounts of crap I keep on my other
wish list when I was looking for my next read. I found, and still do find this
to be the best way to manage my to-read list, outside of Goodreads. I can read
reviews, and buy them without leaving the website!
First up on the list is: Out of Orange, by
Cleary Wolters: Cleary Wolters, is the real life Alex Vause,
from Netflix Original show, Orange is the New Black. The show is based on a
novel under the same name, documenting the very real events of Piper
Kerman’s (Piper Chapman) time in
prison. However, Out of Orange, shows
the flipside of Kerman’s novel. The life of her partner in crime, and ex
girlfriend, Cleary Wolters. I really
enjoyed reading Kerman’s book, and it is no secret that I enjoyed the show, so
this book is currently at the top of my wish list.
Next is, Foxfire, by Joyce Carol Oates:
This is one of those novels that I keep adding, deleting, and then re-adding to
my wish list. The novel was replicated as movie in the early nineties, and I
can’t always get into a book if I have seen the movie version of it first, but
that being said, I really do want to try reading this book. It tells the story
of five girls that have been bought together by newcomer, Legs who has often
been described as 'one of the most vital and vivid heroines in modern fiction'. I love the movie, and I've heard so many good things about this book, and considering a book is
ALWAYS better than it’s movie, it will most likely be a kick-ass novel too.
Third on the list is a graphic novel, Sin
City VOL 2, A Dame to Kill For, by Frank Miller: I have just finished reading the first one,
and I need to the read the second. I can’t believe it has taken me so long to
read them. I have a slight obsession with graphic novels at the moment, I have
a small collection of them stacked up beside my bed, and spend a good ten
minutes deciding which one I want to read before I hit the hay each night. I am
a fast reader, and reading graphic novels usually means I can read an entire
book in an hour or so – which means I am literally going through books faster
than I can order them, haha!
Finally we have, My Heart and Other Black
Holes, by Jasmine Warga: I honestly have no idea what this book is about, but I
saw the name whilst I was scrolling
through Goodreads, and it reminded me of something I probably would have said
when I was fifteen – the blessed emo years! If you have read it, I would love
to know what you thought, maybe it’ll be my next purchase!
Have any suggestions for what I should add to the list, or have any opinions on items I already have on the list? Leave a comment below!
