Top moments of 2015

I can't believe 2015 is over! It only feels like yesterday I was sitting in my living room sprawled out across the sofa, planning out ways I could make 2015 great, and you know what, it was great.

It was ten minutes before midnight, I was half tired and half annoyed - annoyed at the fact another year was over and I had nothing to show for it, so I made a list of things I wanted to do/achieve, and then as the clock struck midnight I vowed that I would work as hard as I could to do as many things on that list as possible. I didn't do everything on the list but I did manage to cross quite a few things off.

The list gave me the motivation I needed to get off my butt and do actually something with my life, it forced me to work hard, make adult decisions, and really think about where I was going instead of aimlessly wandering through life.  I wanted to graduate with a first, to travel more, to be published, and to grow my blog, along with a whole bunch of other things, and every time I crossed something off I felt a little rush of excitement, which in turn gave me more motivation to cross off even more things.

Of course the year did have some low points, life wouldn't be life without them, but you can't dwell on them. Life is made up of highs and lows, and without the lows, we would never be able to have the highs.

I am incredibly sad to not be going into the New Year with one of my greatest friends, Dexter. He was the best cat anyone could ask for, and when he got sick in the summer we knew he didn't have much longer for this world, but I am glad that I had the opportunity to know him and have him as a pet. But as I said before, without the lows, we would not be able recognise the highs when they came around, I'm a firm believer of 'the lower the lows, the higher the highs' and this year definitley proved that true.

I have a great number if high points this yeat, however, I figured if I were to list them all, we would be here for ages, so instead, in particular order, I have listed my top six moments!

1. Rome
It has been on my list ever since I was little, so finally being able to visit Rome was definitely a highlight of the year for me. Being immersed in so much history, culture and pasta was enough to make me smile from ear to ear for at least a month.

2. Paris

I said that I wanted to travel more, so I took the opportunity over the bank holiday to go to Paris. My friend and I wanted to go as far as we could for as little as possible - thus we settled on Paris! We were only there for just over 24 hours, but we managed to do everything we wanted, and made it back to the coach just as it was about to leave (It's a funny story story, I'll tell you about it sometime)

3. Graduating with a First
This was the most important thing on the list for me to do, and I had already pretty much decided that it wasn't going to happen, so when I opened that envelope I just about nearly died. I was okay with achieving a 2:1, it's not a bad grade at all, but it's a grade I was expected to get, and for once I wanted to do better than expected, I wanted to go above and beyond. I was so sure I had messed up, I never even thought I would graduate, so graduating with a first was unbelievably incredible!

4. Amsterdam
Another travelling one. I definitely caught the travelling bug this year, which is why I jumped at the opportunity to visit my friend that lives in Amsterdam! I fell in love with the city, the tall houses, the falling autumn leaves, the smell of fresh bread and crisp air... if you haven't been, you really should!

5. Finishing my dissertation
I'm insanely proud of this. I may have stayed up all night, and only printed it ten minutes before the deadline, but I got it done. It marked the end, what all the hard work was for, and I would do it all again just to feel that 'OMFGIHAVEDONEITIAMSOHAPPYICOULDPEE' feeling. That might be part of the reason why I am doing a Masters actually, just to feel that feeling again.

6. Being published
It was in an anthology, and it was something I have been working on for a long time - but seeing my name in print, next to my own words, it's a thrill I can only hope to happen again! Maybe I'll post it up on here at some point for you guys to read.

I hope 2016 is just as good to me as 2015 has been. I am yet to make another list, but I will being so, and I will work just as hard to achieve what is on that list. Work hard and great things will happen. Manifest magic.

What joy did 2015 bring to you?
