2016 Book Goals

Okay, so I know we are already thirty-four days into 2016, but it is never too late to set goals is it? After spending some time this afternoon staring at my bookshelves and trying to figure out what book I wanted to read next, I came up with the idea of setting myself some book themed goals.

My Goodreads challenge this year is to read thirty books before 2017, it would have been higher but due to all the reading I have to do for uni this year I figured I would set the bar somewhat low, however, that doesn't mean I can't set some goals within my goals.

I have already promised myself that I am not going to buy books on the willy-nilly this year. I have far too many unread books on my shelf, so unless I am absolutely sure that I will start reading a book within a month of buying it, it is staying in the store. That being said if anyone wants to buy some books for me... *wink wink*

So, as for my goals, I have decided that I want to read

Three classics
I have been wanting to read, Tess of the D'urbivilles (Thomas Hardy), Great Expectations (Charles Dickens), and Anna Karenina (Leo Tolstoy) for quite a while now, so hopefully this year is the year I get to read all three!

Five books that are not from a genre I would usually read
I always tend to read books from similar genres. I like what I like, and though I know there are other books out there that I would like, I tend to stay within my comfort zone. If you do this too I challenge you to broaden your reading horizons, you might be surprised at what you find

Two books by British Authors
Most of the authors on my shelf are either American or dead, that's why I want to read more books from British authors. I have nothing against American authors, but we import so much of our literature, that a lot of homegrown talent gets overlooked.

Read At Least Four Recommendations
A lot of friends and interwebz people have recommended me books over the years, however, I tend to add them to a list, and then never actually read them (whoops) so this year, I am actually going to read at least four of the books I am/have been recommended.

What are your book goals for this year?
Are you on Goodreads? Let's be friends!

Kirstie xoxo
