APRIL BOOK HAUL

Whoops.

As some of you may know, at the beginning of the year I put myself on a six-month book ban meaning that I was not allowing myself to purchase or acquire any books until June 25th. The idea behind it stemmed from wanting to read more of the books I actually own rather than keep buying new ones.

I am honestly surprised that I made it this far without breaking, I thought I would only be able to go a month, so making it to almost four and a half is definitely impressive.

I would like to thank the good people at Waterstones Uxbridge for helping me through this relapse, and when I say helping I mean, recommending more books and the encouraging me to buy them all in a single transaction. I would also like to thank the many publishers at the London Book Fair that just kept giving me books!

I suppose there are worse habits, it's not as if I am snorting coke or anything.

So which books have recently come to live at Casa du Kirstie then? Let's find out!
g

WATERSTONES
I went into Waterstones with the intention to browse, and to only browse! However, one does not simply browse in Waterstones; they skip through it filled with wonders and delight, filling up their arms with books until they cannot see where they are going anymore... and by 'they' I mean I.  I only went in to look, I promise!  I beg someone, please take my credit off of me, Waterstones Uxbridge, please ban me from your store - I spent the money I was supposed to use for my phone bill on books!

But as I said before... at least it's not crack.

THE HATE YOU GIVE (THUG)
This book has been on my radar long before it was released - I have only heard positive things about it! And thanks to a group of teenage boys picking it up and lobbing this particular copy at the Starbucks across the shopping centre, I managed to get it for half price. The pages were a bit creased, but I soon flattened them out again... with the help of my current TBR pile.  (Click here to buy)

THE NOWHERE GIRLS
I will admit that I had never heard of this until I came across it in the 'Buy One Get One Half Price' section. I was intrigued by the premise and the fact that it is told using the alternate chapter format. I have high hopes for this one. (Click here to buy)

THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE
Okay, Lauren James - I've seen your many tweets and they have definitely piqued my interest. Also, can we take a minute to gush over how pretty the cover is? Fun tip, if you are ever trying to sell me your book, make sure you give it a sparkly cover! (Click here to buy)

A SHIVER OF SNOW AND SKY
Seriously, Sparkly cover! The glitter may have been what caught my eye, but the synopsis is definitely what sold it to me. Plus it was also in the 'Buy One Get One Half Price' section! (Click here to buy)

RUNNING ON THE ROOF OF THE WORLD
I had never heard of this novel either, and I am slightly dubious on whether I am going to enjoy it or not. I think it might be on the lower end of the YA scale, however, I am still wanting to give it a go based on the chapter artwork alone. (Click here to buy)

LONDON BOOK FAIR
I didn't bring back as many books as I would have liked, so I am going to class that as a win. TBH, I actually made sure to only bring a small bag with me so I couldn't get overexcited and bring back ALL of the books, haha! Though that didn't stop me from taking advantage of the copious amounts of free totes that were being distributed.
G
DEEP BLUE STATE
I was legit just handed this book as I was waiting for the book blogger awards to start. I don't think it is something I would actively choose to read, but I may give it a go, it might be better than I am anticipating.

THE OTHER
I love that the woman at the New York Review was so accommodating to my awkwardness. When I noticed The Other, she asked me what drew me to it, so I told her all about my potential PhD topic, and she just handed it to me. I am really looking forward to reading it. (Click here to buy)

SEDUCTION AND BETRAYAL
This is another from the New York Review, and even though it was first published in 1974 the ideas and arguments are still relevant today! I am looking forward to reading this one too! (Click here to buy)

THE LIFE AND OPINIONS OF ZACHARIUS LICHTER
Another one from the New York Review!
This one is a translation from Romanian novelist, Matei Calinescu, and I have been promised black comedy, historical fiction, and an assault on the modern world order. (Click here to buy)

BRICK LANE BOOKSHOP
Admittedly this was an impulse buy. Brick Lane Book Shop is my second favourite bookshop in London, and I just so happened to find myself walking past a few weeks ago... it would have been rude not to go in, RIGHT?

THE GODFATHER
I have been wanting to read this for the longest time, so when I saw it sitting proudly on the shelf, its red title shining out to me like a beacon, I knew I had to have it. I am hoping to read it this summer, so expect a review soon! (Click here to buy)

I also picked up this really cute tote bag and pencil because apparently, I have no willpower when things are displayed next to me at the checkout.

  2. Oh, Kirsty, your book posts make me laugh so much, I can just imagine you going round Waterstones and fairs, adding to your pile! I very much like the look of the two with sparkly covers, they sound like my sort of read (glitter has nothing to do with it, haha). Fab round up, and good luck with your ever expanding reading pile! x

  3. There's definitely worse habits to have than buying books haha! I'm impressed you made it so far - 4 months without buying books is a definite achievement! There's some fab picks here - I haven't read any of them (yet) but there's certainly a few on my radar! Enjoy :)

  4. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who has no self-control when it comes to buying books! I went into Waterstones recently just to pick up a book I'd reserved, and then, whilst waiting at the checkout, ended up buying three more! x www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

  5. You've got such an epic haul here! I'm so jealous, look at all these amazing stories you have to get stuck into! I am desperate to read The Hate U Give, so I hope you really enjoy it. Something about The Nowhere Girls is really drawing my attention too, I'll need to investigate properly. Also your photos in this post are stunning!
